About me

My name is Giovanni Zaniol and I am a composer based in Berlin.I studied music composition at the conservatory and I have been teaching music theory and composition for more than 10 years, both in music schools and privately. Over the years, I’ve worked with students of different ages, backgrounds and levels, and I’ve always tried to help them find their own way to enjoy music. In Berlin I have been composing music for dance, movie and theater projects. In my works I like mixing singable/enjoyable melodies with noises and concrete sounds effects. If the project allows it I like to do it in a funny and ironic way. I am a fan of Bach but also of synthesizers. My work as a composer can be found here giovannizaniol.com/

What to expect

My lessons are designed around your needs and musical preferences, and are open to all levels and ages. Alongside the technical aspects, I always prioritize fun and love for music.Lessons can be for:
• Complete beginners
• Intermediate students looking to deepen their knowledge
• Self-taught instrumentalists or music producers who want to understand the theory behind the music they play or produce
• Students preparing for a Conservatory/Musikhochschule exam
• Composers who need feedback on their work or help finding their own style
Over the years, I have developed two main learning paths.Music theory:
I introduce students to music reading through rhythmic and note-reading exercises, easy melodies and pieces. We can work through many different topics, such as rhythm, scales, tonalities, intervals, and chords. My approach combines theory, practical exercises, and examples from real pieces of music, keeping the lessons varied and engaging.
Composition:
Lessons focus on developing your own musical voice and writing your own pieces. Depending on your goals, we can work with traditional topics such as harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration — or explore modern compositional languages, contemporary music, and the use of software and electronics.
